Shirt Stories: Maayan Zilberman of the Lake and Stars
We are taking Shirt Stories on the road to mark Memorial Day weekend, and even taking a break from our focus on shirts! For this feature, Maayan Zilberman, who designs The Lake & Stars lingerie collection with Nikki Dekker, wears The Cruiser Dress throughout Israel, while letting us in on her holiday experiences.
Though I really can’t handle public yoga, I thought the ease of this dress would be good for some beach exercise. Here I am on the beach in Tel Aviv, super windy day.
Packing light doesn’t allow for too much accessorizing, so I had to use architecture as the colorful backdrop for outfit. Here, I’m standing in front of one of my favorite buildings in Israel, the Geometric Abstractionist Agam’s Dan Hotel.
Since Nicole and I were going to be walking everywhere, we agreed that comfortable/ugly shoes were a must-have. Matching ones, no less. Luckily we both had wildly printed sundresses and cardigans to draw the eyes upward.
At the desert oasis Ein Gedi Kibbutz, the Steven Alan dress was perfect for an evening stroll (and very aggressive posing). The folk-ey print reminds me of the outfits they dressed me in when I was a little kid on Kibbutz Deganiah.
The Steven Alan dress I wore was perfect with my mom’s ‘80s Gottex bathing suit, the straps mirrored the crisscross back of the jumper and helped me avoid dumb tan lines. We also got a free ride to Masada, assuming this time I should give thanks to the hemline.
Subdued colors in my Steven Alan jumper made it easy to hide in the ancient stone baths that are yet to be open to the public. Not a perfect Girl Scout, turns out.
