Q&A with the MADLY
How did you guys decide to start the company?
It seemed to happen quite naturally; through the many journeys embarked upon together we’ve recognized that we share a fundamental thirst to travel and create.
Thus theMADLY was formed as a manifestation of what I (Melanie Dizon) love to do which is design; and of Jake’s talent with a camera and (concept) storytelling ability.
But really it’s a mutable relationship, constantly flowing and mixing about – a combined effort in short.
How did you come up with the “the writers” concept of your debut collection?
The writers concept was largely inspired by two books we were reading at the time; Hemingway’s “A Moveable Feast” and Aldous Huxley’s “the Island”.
In addition to this, we honored writers whose philosophies, convictions also paralleled with our own.
theMADLY is the embodiment of our discoveries and personal ethos; William Burroughs who is quoted saying “nothing is true, everything is permitted” resonates the notion “to live life MADLY”.
Thanks Melanie and Jake for taking time out to answer a few questions about your amazing new line!
