Shirt Stories Part I: Au Revoir Simone (Heather’s Story)
Heather D’Angelo and Annie Hart of the Brooklyn based electronic band Au Revoir Simone took a couple of our shirts around town. Here is Heather’s story, in part I of a two part shirt story.
Sunday in my Spring Gathered Work Shirt
I live on the Upper West Side right by Central Park, so as soon as the sun comes out and the temperature warms up, that’s the first place I go.
I love wearing a button down shirt as a jacket, but it has to be the right shirt. It can’t be too baggy or long or starchy, or tapered at the waist as lots of women’s tailored shirts annoyingly are. This shirt was the perfect little jacket–super soft, supple cotton that already felt cozy and lived in when I got it. I love SA’s lovely attention to details like the fine navy pin stripe that runs through the shirt, the bit of gathering between the shoulder blades in the back, and the classic buttons. My boyfriend and I walked around the park for a while, then took a nap in the grass, and fantasized about owning a dog.
Soon the sun was high in the sky and I became too warm, so I took the shirt off and crumpled it up into my bag. When the breeze kicked up an hour later, I pulled it out, threw it back on and it still looked good, even with the grass stains.
Later on in the day, we went downtown to one of my favorite restaurants, Momofuko, for lunch. This is a picture of me drinking a glass of wine and waiting for my pork buns to come.
They were delicious and I managed to make it through the whole meal without splashing hot sauce on myself. We walked around the East Village until the sun set, then headed back uptown to change for dinner, which is something I don’t usually do, but it had gotten a little colder and a light Spring shirt worn as a jacket wasn’t cutting it anymore. (It may have been an early Spring day but it’s still March) I hadn’t planned on continuing to wear the SA shirt, but it looked so good with a winter-weight skirt, I ignored the grass stains and tucked it in. We took the subway all the way from 107th street to Williamsburg to have dinner. This is a picture of me and my beautiful friend, Remy. How cute is her little neckerchief?
Between the park and pork buns and staying up late with our dear friends, it was the perfect day!
