Inside Steven Alan

Store Highlight: Hayes Valley

  • Our Hayes Valley shop was our first store in San Francisco. We really enjoy being in the neighborhood (and love having one more excuse to visit a city we love). Store Manager Lori and Assistant Store Manager Keeley talk shop:

What do you love about the Hayes Valley shop and neighborhood?
Hayes Valley is such a close-knit community with an amazing selection of local restaurants and shopping. The neighborhood is so central, nestled between Downtown and the Mission, so it’s full of life. We love meeting Steven Alan fans who are so excited about our SF presence, as well as introducing new fans to the brand. Everyone has their own personal style here, so it’s fun to see locals incorporate Steven Alan into their wardrobes. Hayes Valley still feels like a hidden gem in the city; it’s a great neighborhood for tourists to enjoy a more authentic San Francisco experience.

What are some items that customers love?
Customers deem to really like our jewelry selection, which includes Jerry Grant, Blanca Monrós Gómez, Garnish, Oli & Me, and others. San Franciscans love layering with our shirting and outerwear — we can’t keep enough Seaside Slickers and Parkas in stock. Our shoe selection of No.6, Dieppa Restrepo and SA x Nike are also always a big hit, as are sunglasses, such as Garrett Leight.

What are you really excited about this season?
We’re so excited that we will get to experience our first full Fall season. We’re looking forward to seeing Steven Alan outerwear, specifically the Jolene and Opera coat for the ladies, and the navy leather jacket for the guys. We’re in love with the textures and prints this season for both men and women. No. 6 and Dieppa Restrepo are always a staff favorite. We’re also very excited about Adam Kimmel x Carhartt, which is new for our store this season.

What are some neighborhood spots you like?
There are so many great spots it’s honestly hard to choose favorites. Off the Grid, SF’s gathering of food trucks, now comes to the neighborhood every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening which is always a delicious treat. Curry Up Now is definitely a staff favorite – Indian and Mexican fusion! We get our caffeine fix from Blue Bottle and Ritual and our sweets from Miette. We also love to treat ourselves at Bar Jules, Fatted Calf and the Biergarten.
