Staff Picks: Acne Fall 2012

  • We’ve carried ACNE in our shops since they started out with their very first denim collection. It has since expanded to include a range of products such as shoes, knitwear, dresses, suiting, coats, and accessories, and is universally loved by our staff and customers alike. The multi-faceted Swedish brand/creative collective takes its acronym from the credo Ambition to Create Novel Expression, and with a forward thinking approach to design, ACNE is constantly experimenting with and improving upon techniques, whether it’s with new denim treatments, graphic design, or film production. We’re excited to carry the line in more of our shops this season, as well as online. During a recent product seminar at ACNE studios here in New York, we asked our staff to share their favorite pieces from the current collection:

“The Rita Shearling Leather Jacket. I love the contrasting lining and collar. The shearling is a nice option over the standard black leather jacket and it’s warm enough to layer over a sweater during the bitter winter months.” – Lauren, Web Merchandising Manager

“I like the Strindberg Chunky Pullover. I took a class on Swedish playwright August Strindberg in college and sort of love that writer-by-the-sea look.” – Brent, Chelsea

“The Max Raw denim because after some wear they fade into a really great wash. I love what my denim has faded into.” – Andrew, Venice Store Manager

“I love the Pistol boots. They are easy to walk in and so comfortable. They also make every outfit look great. I pretty much wear mine every day.” – Julia, Brooklyn

“The New Snow Coat is amazing. It’s actually several coats in one. You can wear it all together with the outer layer, the inner shell on it’s own as a puffer coat, or just the outer layer as a light parka. The hot pink accent on the hood (also detachable) makes it fun.” – Annabel, Tribeca

“The Mallory Crepe Dress. Its effortless drape and slit back make for a playful twist on the classic black dress.” – Christine, Fillmore

“I know it’s a men’s item, but I really love the Singer C mohair cardigan. It’s whisper-soft and understated – a great piece for layering during this warm days/cool nights transition time, but also perfect in January. I would wear it with a white tee and leather leggings, or a button-down, denim cutoffs, and clogs. If I were in a good mood, I’d let my husband wear it, too. I’m always head over heels for a good unisex, multifunctional wardrobe staple!” – Alex S., Brooklyn

“The Hockey Heart socks. They’re the most comfortable socks and the purple hearts are just the right amount of discreet fun. Plus, they’re made in England, which is pretty dignified.” – David P., Brooklyn Store Manager

“Being shorter, I tend to gravitate toward cropped fits. I like how the scoop neck balances out the slightly longer sleeve on the Wonder Tencel Tee. The fact that it pairs perfectly with my Needle Raw jeans is definitely an added bonus.” – Lindsey, Fillmore Store Manager

The women’s Needle jeans get a lot of love from our staff. Says Julia: “As simple as it is, I’m a huge fan of the Acne Needle. They’re the only jeans I wear. They’re comfortable, the fit is really flattering, and they have never stretched out or changed shape.” Alex S. agrees: “I can’t think of a more flattering, perfect jean than the Needle Wet Cash. Incredibly feminine, appropriate for work and play, not to mention they break in like a dream.”

“The Defoe Peacoat. Living in the Bay Area, a pea coat is definitely a year-round necessity. What makes this one exceptional is its attention to detail and sharp silhouette.” – David R., Fillmore Assistant Store Manager

You can shop more Acne here, and in our Tribeca, Brooklyn, Chelsea, Venice, and Fillmore shops.
