Inside Steven Alan

Store Highlight: La Brea

  • Our La Brea shop is the newest addition to the Steven Alan family. Store Manager, Jeremy, who came over from our West Hollywood shop, and Assistant Manager, Roderick, talked to us about their new digs.

What do you like most about the new La Brea shop and neighborhood?
We love the look and feel of the shop, with its high ceiling, exposed steel and wood beams, and rustic brick walls. La Brea has always been a great thrifting and antique furniture destination. In addition, the street has a great variety of shops and restaurants, which creates an interesting dynamic. We really like our neighbors.

What are some key items, from both the SA collection and other brands, that people are excited about?
We’ve only been open a short while, but so far, our Flap Pocket Collegiate shirt in blue floral print with natural indigo dye and ACNE Max jeans are favorites among the guys. Our automatic 21 jewel movement timepieces have been doing extremely well. Ladies really like the jewelry collections, such as Dream Collective which is based here in LA. While we have nice weather year round in LA, it does get cooler in the winter months so our Jolene coat and Rosada Sweater have gotten a lot of attention. Demy Lee sweaters have been popular as well. Clare Vivier bags always do well, especially her foldover clutches. For home, people really like the GOOD candle scents, particularly the fig scent.

What are some of your favorite items this season?
Jeremy: I am very excited about R13, a denim line from New York. They use amazing fabrics from Japan, and offer some great styles like the Boy tee and Skinny jeans in Clean Dark. I have been a big fan of our Classic Rainslicker since day one. I love the fabric and the fit.

Rod: The Reigning Champ for Steven Alan collection has been foremost on my list. Jeremy and I both like the straightforward, pared down designs from Norse Projects. I also really like our magazines and reading material. I’ve been a fan of Kinfolk since it first came out — great articles and photos for inspiration.

What are some neighborhood spots you like?
We are big fans of General Quarters and Union. Those were my favorite places to visit prior to working on the block. Sycamore Kitchen is a spot we visit very often — great coffee & quick, tasty bites to satisfying our cravings. Self Edge carries many hard-to-find Japanese denim brands for the die hard denim fans – always love going there. Our new neighbor A+R is always fun to browse for furniture and gift items.

Thanks to Jeremy and Roderick! Come say hello at 123 S. La Brea.
