Introducing: Katie Ermilio for Steven Alan
April 10th, 2014 | In Stock, New Arrivals
This season, designer Katie Ermilio designed a capsule collection just for us. The mix-and-match separates, in a palette of blues and soft pink, arrived in our Tribeca shop and web store last week. Katie dropped by to answer some of our questions and share some styling tips.

Your grandfather was Grace Kelly’s personal clothier, and your dad designs bespoke menswear. How has your family heritage inspired your work?
I am positive that I would not have become a designer without my family’s heritage in the clothing industry. Because I had the resources at my fingertips to create, I did, so I am deeply appreciative of that. My father continues to be well known today for his work in sporting apparel as well as bespoke menswear, and those elements of sport and functionality can be found in everything I do. I continue to be strongly influenced in that way.
What’s been the most challenging aspect of branching out on your own, and what continues to excite you?
There are many challenges you face in starting a business, but ultimately it’s extremely rewarding. I am constantly excited by the design process — getting totally lost in creating an upcoming collection is my favorite thing in the world.
While your eponymous line features cocktail dresses and luxury sportswear, the capsule collection you’ve created for us is a more casual take on your style. How did you approach it?
Designing for the Steven Alan collaboration was seamless, because it’s a direct reflection of my personal style. I am very much a dressed-down girl who loves to get dressd up, so we took our favorite silhouettes from the collections and re-imagined them for the Steven Alan girl.
The pieces in the collection are all meant to work together. How do you like to pair them?
Mixing and matching is essential when building a wardrobe, and I love that the Katie Ermilio for Steven Alan pieces can transcend the seasons as well. The Shirt Dress is perfectly styled with the Neoprene Sweatshirt. I wear the sweatshirt one size up for an oversized, casual vibe, or fitted for a more polished look.
The sweatshirt is already a hit with our staff. What inspired you to work with neoprene?
I was inspired to work with neoprene when I was looking to add an element of sportiness to my last Resort collection. I loved that I was able to use the neoprene to create cocktail dresses and also something as simple as a sweatshirt. Something about that felt incredibly modern.
Many thanks to Katie! You can check out the capsule collection in person at our Tribeca shop at 103 Franklin Street, or shop online.
